My favorite part of working at Alliance is gaining remarkable leadership skills from unmatched and unparalleled leaders. Undoubtedly, Alliance puts an immense amount of effort into the growth and development of their employees, which is astonishing.

WHAT IS THE BEST COMPLIMENT YOU HAVE RECEIVED FROM AN ALLIANCE COLLEAGUE?

The best compliment that I have received from an Alliance colleague is that I have a beautiful spirit and I am very hardworking.

The Alliance value that best reflects my quality of work is integrity. As the Coding Team Lead, I ensure that all claims sent to insurance carriers are coded ethically with honesty, fairness, and integrity.

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

In high school, I worked as a cashier at a local supermarket.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO OUTSIDE THE OFFICE?

My favorite things to do outside of the office are encouraging and uplifting loved ones and doing things that bring a sense of joy and relaxation.

WHAT’S A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT MOST OF YOUR CO-WORKERS DON’T KNOW?

A fun fact about me is that I love all shades of green, which is ironic because my middle name is Jade.

Four Physicians from Alliance Recognized on 2023 Castle Connolly Top Doctors List

Alliance Spine and Pain Centers is proud to announce that four of our physicians appear on metro Atlanta’s Top Doctors list in Modern Luxury Medicine + Doctors magazine’s January issue. They are Drs. David W. Gale, Allen H. Hord, Scott Masson*, and David J. Rosenfeld.  

Among the Alliance physicians recognized on the 2023 Top Doctors list, three received Top Doctors honors and one received the Rising Star award*. Additionally, our physicians comprise half of the physicians in the pain medicine category.

Dr. David W. Gale practices at the Marietta and Cartersville locations. Dr. Gale received his medical degree at Ohio State University. He completed his anesthesiology residency while serving in the US Air Force and his pain management fellowship at University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Gale is board certified in both anesthesiology and pain management, and he holds an ABA subspecialty certificate in pain management. Dr. Gale is a thought leader in Georgia. He has been instrumental in assisting to craft Georgia state legislation regarding pain management, while serving as past president and current executive director of the Georgia Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Practicing in the Atlanta area since 1997, Dr. Gale has a passion for pain management. He is a veteran of Modern Luxury Medicine + Doctors magazine’s Top Doctors list.

Dr. Allen H. Hord practices at the Piedmont/Atlanta, Brookhaven, and Sandy Springs locations. He has more than 35 years of pain management experience in the Atlanta area. Dr. Hord is a pioneer in the interventional pain management field, recognized by peers and patients as a chronic pain expert, educator, researcher, administrator, and philanthropist. He’s an expert in treatments including epidural injections, facet and medial branch blocks, radiofrequency ablation, sympathetic blocks, and spinal cord stimulation. He’s board certified in anesthesiology and was one of the first doctors in the U.S. to become board certified in pain medicine. Dr. Hord was Alliance Spine and Pain Centers’ chief medical officer from 2013-2018, and he’s currently chief medical officer for the practice. His philanthropy includes serving a decade on the board of directors of Flying Doctors America, organizing medical missions in Asia, South America, and Haiti. Dr. Hord is a veteran of Modern Luxury Medicine + Doctors magazine’s Top Doctors list.

Dr. Scott Masson* practices at the Roswell, Canton, Jasper, Woodstock, and Cumming locations. Dr. Masson received his medical degree at Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona. He completed a residency at Oakland University William Beaumont Hospital and a fellowship in pain management at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Masson is board certified in anesthesiology and in pain medicine. He specializes in minimally invasive spine procedures and spinal cord stimulation. Dr. Masson served as a lead author in a publication in the Interventional Pain Management journal. He was fellowship trained under world-renowned pain physician, Dr. Salim Hayek.

Dr. David J. Rosenfeld practices at the Carrollton, Covington, and Peachtree City locations. He has more than 25 years of expertise and innovation in pain management. He is recognized as a pioneer in Georgia for interventional pain procedures. He received his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin. Dr. Rosenfeld is fellowship trained and board certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine. He has published several studies on pain medicine and anesthesiology. Dr. Rosenfeld belongs to the following associations: American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Academy of Pain Medicine, and American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians. Dr. Rosenfeld is a veteran of Modern Luxury Medicine + Doctors magazine’s Top Doctors list.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF WORKING AT ALLIANCE?

My favorite part of working at Alliance is my work family! It is comforting knowing your co-workers are dependable and that you all work well together. It really makes or breaks your day when you operate like a true team, and that has shown me the importance of communication and teamwork.

WHAT IS THE BEST COMPLIMENT YOU HAVE RECEIVED FROM AN ALLIANCE COLLEAGUE?

I was told that I was a fast learner and catching on quickly in my role. It meant a lot to me because I started here right out of school and knew I still had a lot of learning to do in my field as a scrub tech.

I think service best represents my quality of work. I truly love what I do here at Alliance and love coming to work every day and helping out any way that I can!

My first job was working the scoreboard for recreational baseball teams while I was in high school. Ironically, I’m not really a baseball fan and hardly know anything about the game.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS TO DO OUTSIDE THE OFFICE?

I enjoy spending time with my friends and family (including my 3 dogs, of course), traveling when I can, going to concerts, and taking naps!

WHAT’S A FUN FACT ABOUT YOURSELF THAT MOST OF YOUR CO-WORKERS DON’T KNOW?

A fun fact about me that my co-workers probably don’t know is that I enjoy going to estate sales and antique stores. I love collecting antique items like kitchenware and vintage Christmas ornaments.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK IN PAIN MANAGEMENT?

I wanted use of multimodal therapies including medication and interventional treatments to help patients manage their chronic pain.

When I can help patients regain and maintain their quality of life through individualized care.

WHAT DOES YOUR DAILY ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?

My daily routine is typically structured around breakfast in the morning, followed by audible or podcast on my commute to work. After seeing patients, I enjoy exercising in the evening and winding down with a good book or movie with loved ones.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PASTIMES?

Outside of my professional interests, I enjoy traveling, playing basketball, snowboarding, and drawing.

What Is Your Favorite Part of Working at Alliance?

I have been working in the healthcare industry for almost 20 years and have provided care for patients in a wide variety of healthcare specialties. Working at Alliance has allowed me to add pain management care to my experience. I have been enjoying the opportunity to gain knowledge in this field. It has been a lot to learn, but has also been a great experience too.

What Is the Best Compliment You Have Received from an Alliance Colleague?

When I was fairly new to our facility, I felt discouraged. Dr. Growchowska expressed how much confidence she had in me and wanted to personally train me when she cared for her patients. Dr. Grochowska’s encouragement made me feel confident in learning about pain management care and supported me in my new career journey.

Compassion is the Alliance Value that best reflects my work. I am dedicated to my job and take my work very seriously. I always try my best and rely on my training to accomplish all my tasks properly.

What Was Your First Job?

When I was 12, I was ready to work! However, I had to wait until 15 and then got my first job as a cashier at a KFC in Michigan.

What Are Your Favorite Things to Do outside the Office?

Spending time with my family and friends is my favorite activity outside of work. In October 2021, I moved from Michigan to Georgia, so I am far from many of them. I am here with my two children and can continue to have family nights.

What’s a Fun Fact about Yourself That Most of Your Co-workers Don’t Know?

I was a foster mom at 21 years old. For approximately 15 years, I have helped over 20 teenagers get through school and difficult times.

Learn more about Alliance physician, Dr. Ikenna Okpareke, who completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Chicago and his fellowship in chronic interventional pain management at Rush University Medical Center. Then, he was an interventional pain specialist in the Chicago area prior to joining Alliance in early 2022.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK IN PAIN MANAGEMENT?

The pain management specialty is hands-on, multi-faceted patient care. It has a reasonable work/life balance. Also, I enjoy the daily application of basic science, pharmacologic, technological, medical and surgical knowledge.

WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR JOB?

Seeing patients’ smiles from their relief after treatment is very rewarding. I love to hear about their functional improvement on follow-up visits.

WHAT HAS REALLY STOOD OUT ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE WORKING AT ALLIANCE?

You can feel real passion and engagement in our patients’ care, which is why I love my staff. Alliance is a well-structured and organized company, and it’s reflected in our quality patient care.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE HOPING TO WORK IN YOUR FIELD?

My main advice is to keep your work environment fun while maintaining respect for your patients and co-workers. Dedicated patient care should always be the top priority.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PAST-TIMES?

I love traveling and outdoor activities, especially mountain biking and hiking.

Learn more about Alliance physician, Dr.​ Sai P.K. Alla​, who was born in India. He moved to the United States at seven years old and grew up in Philadelphia. After training in Georgia, his family decided to make Atlanta their home. Recently, Dr. Alla and his wife welcomed a new baby girl, Aarya.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK IN PAIN MANAGEMENT?

I chose ​pain ​​management because I value building long​-​term relationships with patients and being able to improve their long-term functionality via interventional procedures, medications​, ​and other behavioral therapies. It is a field that is being revolutionized by advancements by Neuromodulation and Peripheral Nerve Stimulation, so there is much to learn and offer patients.

​WHAT ARE THE KEY CHALLENGES OF THIS FIELD OF MEDICINE? ​

​This field of medicine requires finding the balance of providing high-quality care in a healthcare marketplace that demands efficiency, cost-effectiveness​, ​and patient satisfaction.

WHAT’S THE MOST REWARDING PART OF YOUR JOB?

I enjoy being able to find avenues to improve a patient’s functional status by reducing their pain and learning new interventions that revolutionize how we understand and treat pain. Another rewarding part of my job is to help patients on opioids wean off them and control their pain in other avenues with fewer side effects.

WHAT HAS REALLY STOOD OUT ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE WORKING AT ALLIANCE?

​The amount of support we receive from the nurses and ancillary support staff. Everyone is such an integral part of this practice. I really appreciate how everyone is so valued and consequently people in the practice do their job with such dedication and compassion.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR PEOPLE HOPING TO WORK IN YOUR FIELD?

Yes! Pain requires a lot of patience, compassion, and empathy. I think our field is unique in the sense​ that​ there are a variety of new upcoming procedures, interventions, medications, ​and behavioral therapies that can make a tangible difference in people’s lives. Embracing these multimodal approaches can set someone up well for long-term success in this field.

​WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE NOT WITH ALLIANCE?

I would probably still be a ​​physician practicing anesthesiology, focusing​ on ​acute and ​regional pain. I really enjoy doing procedures.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PASTTIMES?

I am a huge Philadelphia sports fan, so I enjoy keeping tabs on the Sixers, Eagles, ​and Phillies. I enjoy playing tennis, running, and hiking outdoors.

Alliance Spine and Pain Centers Adds Physicians to Acclaimed Roster

Drs. Sai Alla, Daniel Colón-Conde, Hammad Malik, and Ikenna Okpareke join largest pain management company in Southeast

As the largest interventional pain management company in the Southeast, Alliance Spine and Pain Centers is proud to announce that Drs. Sai Alla, Daniel Colón-Conde, Hammad Malik, and Ikenna Okpareke have joined the practice.

“It is exciting to welcome one new physician, let alone four,” says Stephen Rosenbaum, CEO of Alliance Spine and Pain Centers. “We look forward to having the doctors join our team and contribute to our practice’s commitment to excellence and top-quality care.”

Alliance has been adding new physicians to its top-tier team since the beginning of 2022, with Drs. Okpareke and Colón-Conde joining the practice earlier this year, Dr. Malik joining in July, and Dr. Alla in August of this year. Drs. Alla, Malik, and Okpareke specialize in interventional pain and anesthesiology, and Dr. Colón-Conde specializes in interventional pain as well as physical medicine and rehabilitation.

“As the practice continues to grow, I’m excited to see Alliance add to its diverse physician roster,” says Rosenbaum. “This broadens the wide range of professional perspectives available, which leads to better solutions for our patients.”

Dr. Sai P.K. Alla practices in our Conyers and Covington offices. Prior to joining Alliance, Dr. Alla completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of South Florida and a fellowship in anesthesiology multidisciplinary pain management at the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Alla is also board certified in anesthesiology and a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, Spine International Society, and American Society of Regional Anesthesia.

Dr. Daniel G. Colón-Conde practices in our Carrollton and Douglasville offices. He received his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences. Dr. Colón-Conde then completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the VA Medical Center in San Juan followed by a fellowship in interventional pain management at National Spine and Pain Centers in Florida.

Dr. Hammad Malik practices in our Cartersville office. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and a fellowship in pain management at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Dr. Malik is also double board certified in anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine, and belongs to American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia, Kentucky Society of Anesthesiologists, Ohio Society of Anesthesiologists, Cincinnati Pain Society, and American Society of Critical Care Medicine. In addition to English, Dr. Malik can speak Hindi, Urdu, and Punjabi.

Dr. Ikenna Okpareke practices in our Camp Creek and Douglasville offices. He received his medical degree from Albany Medical College before completing a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Chicago, then a fellowship in chronic interventional pain management at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Okpareke is also double board certified in anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine.
