Meet Dr. Geum Yeon Sim: Physician, Mother, and Adventurer

How many years have you been at Alliance Spine and Pain? 

I joined Alliance Spine and Pain in January 2025.

Why did you choose to work in the field of pain management? 

I am passionate about making a real difference in helping people manage chronic pain effectively. My goal is to improve their quality of life by combining evidence-based medical knowledge with hands-on interventional procedures to provide lasting relief.

Are there any personal experiences or interests you'd be open to sharing that might help patients feel more connected or comfortable with you?

I am a proud mother of a chubby 5-month-old baby boy who was born during Helene.

What are the key challenges of this field of medicine? 

Chronic pain is complex because it often lacks a clear underlying pathology and can be influenced by not only medical conditions but also psychological and socioeconomic factors. The lack of uniform, objective measures for pain adds to the challenge.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job? 

When patients tell me how they can walk better, play with their grandchild, or feel like themselves again. I feel blessed and privileged to be able to help others.

What’s one thing that has surprised you about working at Alliance Spine and Pain? 

I am very impressed by how amicable the working culture is, Everyone—I mean every single person I have met and worked with—has been wonderful!  

What are your favorite past-times? 

Traveling, cooking, taking care of my baby.
